About the Position: This position is with the Directorate of Public Works, Operations & Maintenance Division, Schofield Barracks Cyclic Team located on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Travel and transportation costs are NOT authorized. This is a career program (CP) 17 position. Serve as maintenance mechanic helper; assisting journeyman in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting by performing basic tasks incidental to the trades. Assist in preparatory work by assembling tools and materials and carrying them to the jobsite. Perform miscellaneous work such as stripping forms, threading pipe, pulling wire, etc. Learn to use a variety of hand and power tools in the accomplishment of assignments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further. Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience assisting in the repair of woodwork such as doors, walls; plumbing such as fixtures for toilets, faucets; electrical such as replacing bulbs, outlet/switch plates; and have painted surfaces using a brush and/or roller.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee works in shops and at job sites. Strenuous physical exertion is often required. Employee may lift and move materials up to 40 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Employee is required to stand, stoop, and bend. Kneeling, climbing on ladders, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding and platforms.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, saw dust, glue fumes, and hazards associated with wood working and related power equipment when performing work in the shop area. Work at job sites exposes employee to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises and contusions. May be required to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required. Steel toe shoes, hard hats and safety glasses, are required at all times. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.

Conditions of Employment:
1. Respond to emergency calls after regular working hours.
2. The employee will drive a utility truck or similar vehicle to and from the worksite in order to transport self, supplies and other employees. Incumbent must be able to obtain and keep current a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirement for the type vehicle being operated.
3. Assure that environmental, safety and housekeeping rules are followed
4. This position is designated as Drug Testing Required. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing in accordance with Department of Army guidelines.
5. Incumbent is required to pass a pre-employment physical and any subsequent annual physical.
6. This position may require the incumbent to work nights, weekends and/or rotational shifts.
